In an ideal world there wouldn’t be a need for companies like ours.  As a contractor you could focus on putting up a quality building for a fair price in a reasonable time frame.  You wouldn’t need advice or training on how to deal with “Business Administration”.  Most of us can accept that this is the real world though, and there is a lot more to building than what happens on the job site.  Most of us are OK with that too.  We can see how better management of finances, people, and operations creates benefits.  But living in the real world shouldn’t mean we endure the ever-growing burden of government regulation and compliance.

Believe it or not, there are people in government who agree with you.  But if you want them to fight those battles on your behalf then they need to hear from you.

And if you are in Ontario, take the time to go here and make a statement.

We may love to complain among ourselves about how over-regulated we are, but the fact is YOU need to let our legislators hear it too.  They have put the opportunity out there for Ontario business to comment on how red tape is killing us.  If collectively we can’t help them understand the problem, then the inevitable conclusion will be that there is no problem.  And nothing will improve.

We have no doubt that it’s worth taking time out of your business to become better at managing it ( in fact we guarantee it).  But that doesn’t mean we should be the ones telling you when that time should be.  Perhaps your experience up to now is to have a calendar presented with a few choices on it and you are free to pick one.  Quite possibly, none of those options are good for you and it comes down to choosing the least inconvenient.  We don’t think it needs to be that way.  If you have seen a course on this website that might work for you, then tell us what time and place can also work for you.  If others in your area join the conversation we’ll look for a time that works then we’ll bring the program to you.

We’re not talking about the armchair experts who learned it all from home improvement shows.  The fact is that too few customers can choose the best contractor for them because they don’t know what makes a good contractor. That’s one reason so many mistake the lowest price for the best price.  Part of our mission at MMI is to change that.  We think a customer who knows how to assess professionalism is also a customer who can see the distinction between value and price.  We think a customer who is more confident in their choice of contractor will find it easier to  “stay in their lane” and let you do your work.  We think that a customer who understands their obligations to make a project run smoothly will be easier to work with and ultimately much happier with the result.  Clearly we have an opinion, but we want to hear yours.  Tell us what you think consumers need to learn so that they can work with you more effectively.  We’ll take that message to the public in education seminars dedicated to that purpose.
